press witch hunt looking to blame heavy metal music for disturbed individuals’ actions rather than let the parents own up to some of the responsibility. Aside from all this fuss I love the music they produce. It’s simultaneously lively angry and forceful and always gets my blood flowing when I listen to them specifically their first three albums Herzeleid Sehnsucht and Mutter. Most of their songs are “sung” in guttural German which makes the rough and aggressive sound that much more appealing when I’m in that kind of bad-tempered mood like driving in heavy traffic (though it never makes me want to start shooting people). Reports have stated the band’s manager describes the new album as a mixture between Sehnsucht and Mutter.

Combining metal music with folk rock is not a new concept. However Blackguard doesn’t get carried away as other bands who don outrageous outfits and become characters of a fantasy world. Anyone who checks out any of their sites online can see a full bio of all the band has been through.

This album is consistent with the bands history of producing fast paced metal with aggressive vocals and shredding guitars. The title track “An cean Between Us” is easily one of the best songs on the album with its fluid transitions and lightning fast guitar melodies. Nearly every song on the album is anchored with a melodic line blended with the aggressiveness of many bands in the metal scene today.
