Whether with Nagell or with the far more complex Varge Vikernes of the band Barzum far too many questions were left unanswered. How did these bands form? What were the early shows like? What is the songwriting process? How does it differ from other forms of music? How did the audiences change over time? PUGHKEEPSIE – Joe Bertolozzi has found an unusual subject and place to create music. Bertolozzi led a group of people to the east tower of the Mid-Hudson Bridge ver the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland Saturday to show off his new piece: A public art project called Bridge Music. Bertolozzi used mallets to create music by striking the bridge’s guard rails spindles girders and other metal surfaces and Saturday his work was unveiled at a listening station on the east tower where about a dozen tracks can be heard from powerful overhead speakers which can drown out nearby noise such as an accelerating Harley. "I thought it was the coolest thing I could do" said Bertolozzi who lives in Beacon. "Everything vibrates and I knew this would vibrate like the tines on your fork or like the bass on a drum. I was a matter of recording it; putting it in order and making it sound like music. " There was a ribbon cutting ceremony as a group gathered around the listening post.

Between Saturday’s unseasonably cool temperatures the gray overcast skies and a handful of early-afternoon raindrops attendees were likely double-checking their calendars to make sure it was June and not early April. And while a few light sprinkles didn’t turn into a biblical deluge the weather certainly didn’t help overall attendance. With a trio of stages at its disposal counting Jay Pritzker Pavilion — a setting as awe-inspiring as any cathedral — Gospel Fest incorporated a commendable array of styles including old-school soul jazz and Broadway-worthy show stoppers.

com is highlighting “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone for accepting a role as Varg Vikernes in the upcoming film “Lords of Chaos. ” Unless you’ve been following the black metal scene for the past 20 years you may not know that Varg was the frontman for a Norwegian band called Burzum. He’s currently sitting in jail for the murder of Mayhem guitarist ystein Aarseth and is also responsible for the burning of three churches. The film is based off of the book by authors Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind. Director Sion Sono will be depicting the black metal culture of the 1990s which led to a series of gruesome murders and arson in Norway. Vikernes is not exactly pleased with the retelling of his exploits.
