And his Anvil! TheStory of Anvil is moving and very real. But don’t just take myword for it; Dustin Hoffman told the director: “This is the mostinspirational moving beautiful film I think I’ve ever seen. Ihated heavy metal until tonight. ” First the backstory for those of youwho (like me) had never heard of Anvil before this year. Dubbed “TheGodfathers of Speed Metal” they pretty much created the style thatMegadeth Slayer and—most notably—Metallica adopted to sellmillions upon millions of records. For proof listen to Lars ofMetallica Lemmy of Motorhead and Slash of Guns N’ Roses all of whomgive glowing testimony in the film. But unlike those bands Anvilnever quite hit it big due to a combination of bad management badrecord labels and bad luck.

com is highlighting “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone for accepting a role as Varg Vikernes in the upcoming film “Lords of Chaos. ” Unless you’ve been following the black metal scene for the past 20 years you may not know that Varg was the frontman for a Norwegian band called Burzum. He’s currently sitting in jail for the murder of Mayhem guitarist ystein Aarseth and is also responsible for the burning of three churches. The film is based off of the book by authors Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind. Director Sion Sono will be depicting the black metal culture of the 1990s which led to a series of gruesome murders and arson in Norway. Vikernes is not exactly pleased with the retelling of his exploits.
