For the December Hard-n-Heavy Extreme showcase three eardrum blasting metal bands will help you forget about being on the naughty list. Chicago death metal act Nekropsy will make its Lafayette debut. This brutal band features vocalist Paul Garcia a former member of national touring metal act Gorgasm. pening will be Lafayette’s own death metal band Catatonic Atrocity and thrashers Narrow House. Catatonic Atrocity is backed by longtime local metal drummer Kevin Baum and is fronted by Human Filleted vocalist and guitarist Kyle Christman.

Disturbed’s debut album The Sickness introduced a group and frontman angry enough for even the most rebellious of teenagers with violent threats and paranoid rants over crushing guitar riffs and blasting beats. As the band matured guitar solos started appearing in songs and singer David Draiman’s distinctive rasping gave way to more traditional singing. 2008 saw the release of the band’s fourth album a formulaic yet formidable offering of Disturbed’s traditional aggressive pummeling music.

San Bernardino County seems to breed ultimate fighters. From the center of the cage like a circus ringleader the announcer used his booming baritone voice to list off the fighters’ hometowns – Highland Victorville Rancho Cucamonga San Bernardino. What makes King of the Cage such sheer spectacle besides the violent ringside show? The adrenaline-pumping metal music the glaring lights trained on the stage the blaring preview videos of fighters attempting to psych out their adversaries and the scantily clad cage girls strutting around the cage’s perimeter in black string bikinis and high heels. The fighters enter the arena to the pounding music. They strip off their warm-up suits revealing skin etched with the black green and blue ink of tattoos. Vaseline is smeared on their faces to deflect punches and reduce the chances of incurring bloody facial wounds. Then the coaches thump the fighters’ backs give words of reassurance and encouragement.

While my sister was listening to Menudo and my mom listening to Sonny and Cher I was listening to Iron Maiden Motorhead and DI. Yea I had my head on straight! I missed those days of gut wrenching melodic metal. Sure bands have come along since and have attempted the style but tend to fail miserably. Nothing can beat the style grace and musicianship of that metal genre and no band has really captured that true essence of what metal REALLY is.

It’s just a play on how you would say S and S! Ha ha. “Regarding the band’s musical style Steve said “This is an all-instrumental project and for me a delving into the world of progressive rock. It’s not metal but myself being from a long background of metal music you know it’s in there as well! There are different styles of music that find their way into our songs plenty of shred from myself Steve Hoffman on bass and our special guest drummer Atma Anur! Atma has a long history as a session drummer for Shrapnel Records. Most here may know him from the first CACPHNY record or Jason Becker’s first solo album ‘Perpetual Burn’ or maybe even Greg Howe’s debut album. It’s a mixture of styles so fusion fits in there.

You couldn’t do that back then. You could only imagine that. What this game allows you to do is physicalize heavy metal music. You can do battle with this dramatic dangerous music as your score. It’s a real wish-fulfillment game for me. How is working in games different from in movies? Black: It’s exciting to me because it’s still relatively new. It’s an art form that hasn’t really reached its potential yet.
