Farrow suggests that an outdoor brand such asTimberland might consider linking up with metal music which has?rugged? values. ?I?m not saying that Timberland shouldrush out and sponsor Metallica just that brands need to open their eyes?he says. More obvioussynergies are those between Coldplay and people with a strong social conscienceand between Madonna and those with materialistic values. For electronics companyLG argues Farrow Madonna?s image-conscious positioning might be a goodfit but it might not be so appropriate for a brand with customers who craveindividuality.

How one Southern church forges unity through voice
Christian Science Monitor – May 28, 2008
Not unlike that at times of life itself. Voices rise and fall in the breeze audible long before you see the simple wooden church resting beneath a canopy of hundred-year-old oaks. The doors and windows are open and music pours out across the desolate landscape winding through the trees and lifting through billowing white clouds to a heaven of clear blue sky. The music is Sacred Harp a nondenominational form of choral singing that encourages community participation. Despite suggestions that the tradition is dying there are singings from Chicago to San Francisco and even the United Kingdom every week some attracting as many as 1000 participants. Slick CDs are being produced and professors from around the world are hunching over atlases and MapQuest directions trying to find their way to churches like Liberty Grove hoping to study a culture that has become synonymous with the rural South but began in the singing schools of colonial England. Today fans of the music face a steep challenge ? how to bolster the momentum of Sacred Harp and continue to make an ancient folk tradition relevant in today’s modern world… The church interior is unadorned. Plain metal fans and naked bulbs dotting the pine ceiling. Feet keep time as well. Everything here is about time. Man’s journey through life.

Off the dial

"The experience in the US reveals identical format listening habits on dedicated internet radio stations as their terrestrial cousins. " Getting technical SO WHAT is internet radio’s sound quality like? Well it varies widely but internet radio generally sounds better than AM but not quite as good as FM. Unlike downloading music for listening later internet radio is delivered as a constant transfer of data. That’s called streaming. If that stream of data is interrupted as a result of internet traffic congestion so is the music. During such unwanted breaks which can last several seconds and recur with annoying regularity you may see a message such as "Buffering… As the name suggests streaming from these stations doesn’t count towards your monthly download quota. I NTERNODE has an even more extensive selection of internet radio stations which it "re-broadcasts" for its customers to provide more reliable audio streaming. These selections range from Melbourne community stations such as 3CR and Joy FM to ChroniX Grit (heavy metal) RantRadio (punk) and Life FM (Christian). But if you want to explore offerings beyond your ISP’s free selection and are worried about blowing your usage allowance make sure to do the megabyte sums and keep a close eye on your volume usage. If you develop a taste for streamed content switch to a better broadband plan. Compare options at website.

East Bay Express | Movies | I’ma Stranger Here Myself
East Bay Express – May 28, 2008
Just when the going gets especially rough the needle-drop changes from soft rock to Merle Haggard’s country oldie “Mama Tried. ” What a bracingly bizarre choice. It’s as “wrong” for the Gillian-Welch-fan yuppie couple as the killers’ thrash metal was for their classical-music-worshipping victims in Funny Games. If you want to make these characters and their audience nervous hit them in the face with unfamiliar music. Maybe something by Aerosmith. A further nice touch: the two Mormon kids who ask “Are you a sinner?”.
Now, perhaps you need to do education papers, and Comparison Essay and mathematics papers.

Houston Chronicle – May 28, 2008
I was never into the whole theme early on – and the harder stuff irritated me as I could rarely make out the words. A lot of heavy metal just seemed like raw anger. And hadn’t picked up a guitar at the time. The purists hate them but hey.
