He believes young people in the Middle East turn to heavy metal music as an act of rebellion against oppression censorship and authoritarianism. net interviewed Professor LeVine about how heavy metal in the Middle East reflects the existing and changing social conditions in the region. A lot of the metal heads you interviewed felt their music did not prevent them from being good Muslims. How do they reconcile the two?… So they aren’t singing satanic lyrics but musically if you listened to a satanic track without the vocals the sound the guitars and arrangement would be similar. It sounds the same but the content of lyrics is very different. In Muslim countries is the opposition to Heavy Metal music on the rise?Conservatives and Salafis will always be against it but they’re probably against all music per say besides Quranic chanting or something. Then there are fanatics who say even that is haram. Certainly things have changed though from a decade ago. In ’97 in Egypt the government crackdown against the metal scene was in large part just to appease religious forces Mubarak felt he had to appease ordinary religious Egyptians and the metal heads become a convenient target. They symbolized everything wrong with Egypt like westernization and Zionism.

The girl who cannot be identified has told the court she met Acott on the website vampirefreaks. com which is dedicated to the gothic subculture. Members commonly listen to heavy metal music and wear black medieval-style clothing. The girl said she was 14 at the time and Acott calling himself "Wozza" on the website contacted her by saying "something about me being sexy". The girl now aged 17 told the court Acott sent her messages about him wanting to tie her up rape her cut her and hit her. "I didn’t really take much notice" she said. The girl said the web forum was used by teenagers "and they used to say stupid stuff like that because it used to be a fantasy thing that wasn’t really real".
