But there exists another Behemoth not an animal from biblical times but an extreme metal band from Poland that is awe-inspiring in their own rite. They will play at the 9:30 Club Saturday April 27th. Corpse paint metal spikes blood black leather and lots and lots of headbanging are characteristics of this Behemoth. These guys are definitely not Britney Spears the Spice Girls or a mellow jam band. Their differences are apparent from the moment they rip the first Bible on stage. Vocalist and guitarist Adam Darksi goes by the name Nergal – a mythical Babylonian deity who presided over the netherworld governing the dead. He founded Behemoth in the early 1990s… He founded Behemoth in the early 1990s. Born into a society that was impoverished from Soviet communist rule he said in an interview that “making heavy metal was certainly very difficult. “But we accepted this and created this type of music out of personal love and passion” he said. Coming from an oppressive society it is no wonder then why Behemoth’s music is so extreme. Nergal vehemently described his need to express himself violently. “For me it is natural to go on stage and emancipate myself though adrenaline aggression and violence. Despite references to the devil in song lyrics Nergal explains they are of a more atheistic persuasion.

The newest Chris Broderick formerly of Jag Panzer and Nevermore is on tour with the band for the third installment of Gigantour the no-nonsense five-band metal caravan with Megadeth as the headline act. Skip to next paragraph… It used some backing tracks to widen its style; it’s a dark-themed arena-rock band with inflated emotional choruses between the growled verses. It could thrash too and get plenty dark as in “Take This Life” a contemplating-suicide song but there was a voice of reason waiting in the chorus. Some of the In Flames songs flirt with electronic dance music; “My Sweet Shadow” had chilled-out down-tempo interludes that suddenly gave way to juddering metal. This worked to beautiful effect down on the floor in the mosh pits where fans were literally catapulting their friends into a cleared space when the rocking release arrived. Gigantour with Children of Bodom High on Fire In Flames Job for a Cowboy and Megadeth will play in Worcester Mass. on Friday and in Baltimore on Saturday. Details at gigantour.

Not unlike Rush the trio’s music is characterized by technically brilliant instrumentation obscene vocal range and even some literary references (although singer Thomas Erak probably screams a bit more than Geddy Lee ever did). The Fall of Troy even has a song in Guitar Hero III. But drummer Andrew Forsman doesn’t think the band can be pigeonholed so easily. “I’ve never heard other stuff that sounds like our music” Forsman said. “We just make music we enjoy listening to and making… “I’ve never heard other stuff that sounds like our music” Forsman said. “We just make music we enjoy listening to and making. Although the Fall of Troy which will be headlining Sunday night’s Asylum-organized show in HUB Heritage Hall has obvious metal and post-hardcore influences Forsman said the band is more diverse than a cursory listen might suggest. “We’re pretty big pop fans” he said. “There were songs on our last album that were straight-up pop songs and we’re pretty happy with the result. The band Forsman said is constantly trying to change things up and hopes to continue evolving from album to album. The Fall of Troy’s studio sound is also different from its live show which Forsman said includes a lot more guitar improvisation.

At their peak the charismatic Metal rizon took the music industry by storm redefining rock to suit the local market as the genre was viewed largely as foreign. The influence of rock is far-reaching and has had significant impact on fashion and film styles worldwide. Its growth in Botswana is evidenced by the fashion trends of its followers the majority being the middle aged. Black cowboy hats tight black leather outfits and the infamous prints on t-shirts which have been largely associated with a cult often referred to as Satanism make rock fans stand out from the rest. Most rock artists are known as hard- drinking and hard-living characters.
