They were recently contacted by Glenn Harveston promoter and founder of ProgPower USA wondering if they’d be interested in playing the festival. Now in its ninth year ProgPower USA takes place in Atlanta Georgia on September 26 and 27 highlighting the best in North American progressive metal music. Harveston said of our local boys: “Gates of Winter is one of the most promising bands to emerge in the past few years. If [the album] Lux Aeterna is a glimmer of what is to come then everyone needs to prepare to get their a$$ kicked now. “In order to help Gates of Winter secure a spot at the festival a few simple steps are required.

Instead of white dorks playing African music a Nigerian rocked a bluegrass tune and in the process turned the entire “Idol” competition on its head. Sure Chi’s jug-band-turned-hard-rock arrangement was a little schizophrenic and yes his vocals occasionally teetered on brakes-on-asphalt screeching but he won huge points by being unpredictable and extra-likable (even after we found out he was an airport security guard). A singer who I swore wouldn’t survive the next two weeks all of a sudden seems like a guy we’ll be seeing a lot of this season. Also I love my parents with all my heart but if Chikezie’s family ever wants to adopt me my bags are packed. It?s a compelling story that shows the evolution of one man?s thinking as the world around him changed overnight. ?The Wrecking Crew?This being Austin it makes sense that SXSW would have a whole category of films ?24 beats per second? devoted to music. The films include ?Nerdcore Rising? about a new movement in hip-hop and ?Heavy Metal in Bagdad. ? ?The Wrecking Crew? looks at the session musicians behind some of the ?60s biggest hits by bands such as The Beach Boys Jan & Dean Nancy Sinatra and The Righteous Brothers. Unbelievably the same set of musicians played on almost every record.
