DAATH ‘” THE HINDERERS
nwipp-newspapers.com – Sep 27, 2007
Gaining a massive Roadrunner deal the band has finally got the attention they deserve and to justify that The Hinderers was recently released to prove what a worthy signing they were. As mentioned before the band’s replication of the Gothenburg sound is loud and clear in opener Subterfuge with the tracks relentless double kick fury evident throughout accompanied by the typical repetitive thrashy guitar structure. Not afraid to diversify the band also includes many musical breakdowns to reveal the likes of a piano inclusion in Under a Sombre Sign ultimately emitting a Cradle f Filth like dimension to their music. The band also embrace a trance element to their sound in Who Will Take The Blame? and Dead n The Dance Floor featuring dance samples to open both tracks and also appearing throughout the songs overall. The band is quite an easy one to parallel with many other artists. They have the throat cutting vocals of Dimmu Borgir the suggestive industrial edge of Fear Factory and experimental features of Static-X but their combination of all three on The Hinderers makes them a pleasure to listen to. Nothing gets old or repetitive as the album goes on rather they continue to push a boundary that many metal bands aren’t even aware of and for that they deserve to be just as significant as the somewhat simplistic yet still brilliant Lamb f God Chimaira and God Forbid in today’s metal scene… The young American band’s new album Genesis does not encounter any Genesis covers but does offer ten tracks of pure doom laden metal. Front man Jonny Davy’s vocals are a perfect blend of Glenn Benton’s death grunts George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher’s all out death screams and the way Scooby Doo talks. Like many death metal bands before them their album consists of three minute tracks played at 100 mph with supersonic drummer and fret burning guitars. pening tracks Bearing The Serpents Lamb and Reduced To Mere Filth seamlessly run into to other due to such a similarity between each songs. However the band do vary themselves with Blasphemy a dark Mayhem like instrumental which follows into The Divine Falsehood an amazing effort capable of being written by the likes of Entombed or Nile. verall the album doesn’t conjure anything that hasn’t been created before but what it does recreate is the classic and best death metal of the late 80′s something I’m sure Phil Collins would be proud of.
