Nonetheless the unwelcomingweather didn’t prevent many of the acts or fans from wearing makeupand costumes. The crowd seemed to be on the older side not a healthy sign formetal. Could it be the singers of contemporary metal bands nottaking enough of a cue from zzy? They tend to drown out good musicwith screams that get annoying after 20 minutes let alone after aday-long show. Here are my takes on the bigger acts:Behemoth:The vocals of lead singer Adam Darski sounded likewell-enunciated burps. The guitars were the best part of theirperformance something that was true for all the bands thatperformed. Members wore Kiss-like makeup that dripped off in theheat until all that was left were disheveled musicians trying tolook the part. Hatebreed:Jamey Jasta lead singer of the second-stage headliner was abetter vocalist than Darski but he still tended to scream ratherthan sing.

It's not unusual for a kid who's used to breezy alternative rock to end up in a hardcore metal band. “We all have different styles of music and at first we couldn't agree on anything” says Garrett Hackler 15 one of the three guitarists in PLAID. “We just fought for a whole day.
