The Gauntlet :: Red Harvest – Heavy Metal – News – Red Harvest Videos…
thegauntlet.com – Jul 28, 2007
As the title suggests the album deals with a lot of dark elements in the human nature. The Gauntlet: Would you say this is one of Red Harvest’s heavier releases to date?Ketil: Yes we chose to slow down the tempo in the music a little in order to create more atmosphere but yes again; this album is more pure when it comes to both metal elements more alternative elements and the electronic elements. The Gauntlet: Plenty bands of heavy nature mention that they listen to a lot of metal as influence and not to become one sided with their musical approaches and there are many influences surrounding Red Harvest what are some of the styles that you enjoy the most that you hear working their way into Red Harvest songs?Ketil: f course we like a lot of metal bands but we also like electronic music and alternative music. We are five persons in the band and I think a lot of the reason why we sound like we do is because all five of us listen to a lot of different music styles and bands so when we get together to create Red Harvest music we find ourselves in a big melting pot. The Gauntlet: As always the lyrical content has a lot to do with the mood of the album as a whole what are some of the concepts you incorporated into the album?Ketil: The album deals with the darker sides of the human mind. The side you hardly ever show other people. I think we all live double lives in many ways and the world is full of people that would like to be different or do something else if they had the possibility.

WARREN ? Her raspy and out-of-pitch rendition of Aerosmith?s ?Cryin?? hurt enough to make Steven Tyler bawl his eyes out but Danielle Lyn could certainly belt out her originals. The 20-year-old singer from Struthers has been recording since January and released her EP ?76 West? at ruKus The Festival. Her Jewel meets Blondie sound matches her punk-pop look and she sounds great as long as she doesn’t try to sing metal. For being new to the scene Danielle Lyn is someone you’ll remember. Danielle Lyn said she started recording in January and played her first show in June at The Cellar with Joe Bonnamossa a blues guitarist. So far she?s been doing 30-minute sets but she hopes to make them longer and have more originals in time for VexFest IV. For now she’s still writing and recording with her drummer and producer Jason Levis.

Triple play for DeLuca and band
ParamusPost.com – Jul 28, 2007
Then again The Burden may be the only rock-related band anywhere whose members perform on such exotic instruments as harmonium (a hand-pumped organ that originated in India) and cajon (a boxlike Peruvian hand drum). DeLuca himself plays mostly on a Dobro and a National Steel. Each of these six-stringed acoustic guitars has a built-in metal resonator. The resulting increase in volume made both instruments popular with the pioneering Delta blues pioneers of the early 20th century including such haunting (and haunted) DeLuca favorites as Son House Mississippi Fred McDowell and Bukka White. "The Dobro is vulnerable and aggressive at the same time" said DeLuca whose love of Delta blues serves as a launching pad for his own music not a final destination. "I kind of shunned the electric blues stuff. I felt like the storytelling going on with the early blues and folk musicians had a deeper element to it… It wasn’t just about good times and turning up the volume. It was these powerful lyrics with simple accompaniment. And that to me is still the most powerful thing in music. "When I say ‘evil’ or ‘dark’ I just believe it’s a part of our landscape as human beings and that you have to go to those places to find the real beauty in life. So for me it’s a conduit to get to some optimism. " DeLuca’s best songs make a powerful impact even in their most understated moments. A skilled instrumentalist and a gifted singer and songwriter he draws from the past not to slavishly mimic but as both a steppingstone to the future and a way to salute his musical forefathers.

The Gang Font feat. Interloper (Thirsty Ear)
Play by Play – Jul 28, 2007
The Gang Font feat. Interloper marks Norton's return from musical retirement the first album of new material from the mustachioed bassist in 20 years. Coaxing Norton back to the thunderstaff was Bad Plus drummer Dave King who approached Norton in hopes of joining a band he described as "a fusion of punk junk jazz avant garde industrial metal noise. " To round out the lineup King brought along progressive jazz keyboardist Craig Taborn and guitarist Erik Fratzke King's cohort in the band Happy Apple. Interloper sounds about like you'd expect with such a pedigree… Fortunately the next track "The Litigious Mike Love" explodes the album back to life and it remains electrified and engaging for the remainder of its runtime.
