‘Pink Floyd is the biggest influence’

After few months of jamming we decided to start working as a band andtry to work on few of our own compositions. Youare the first progressive metal band in Bangladesh. What was the audience’sresponse to this new sound? Wellyes we probably are the first recognised progressive metal band in Dhaka; Butthe progressive sound was not unknown to the audience thanks to WarfazeRockstrata In-Dhaka and some other senior rock bands of Bangladesh. HoweverArtcell came up with much heavier sound and technical stuffs which were acceptedand appreciated by the audience. Frankly speaking we didn’t expect this huge aresponse from the people. Whatare your influences? Allfour of us have different musical influences for example Ilike Mr Big Stuart Hamm Dave Metthews BandQueensryche; Shaju likes Lamb of God Rush Aryon; Lincoln is into Death DimmuBorgir; whereas Ershad loves Pink Floyd Symphony X and so on… In a way the UG bands are givingcompetition to the already established bands. Dopeople listen to new sound? Are they open to it? hyes they are. Can you believe the UG bands do covers ranging from Lamb of GodSlayer to Audioslave Incubus Steve Vai John Petrucci! The audience have agreat taste for good music and that’s the only thing that inspired the bands tocome up with their own distinct sound and compositions. Whatabout your lyrics? From where do you draw inspiration? WellArtcell has always been very serious about it lyrics. The type of lyrics weprefer here in the songs are somewhat different from that preferred in Kolkata. For Artcell it’s more theoretical. But it always have to be very meaningful andoften dark.
