But now it seems that everywhere you look the guitar solo is making a comeback whether it’s newer metal bands like Dragonforce perennial stalwarts like zzy sbourne or even the descendents of that same grunge movement. For some genres like instrumental guitar the art never disappeared at all. Such is the case for instrumental hard rock guitarist Randy Ellefson whose second album aptly titled Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid will be released July 31 2007. Featuring ten intense soaring songs with crunchy riffs big melodies and over the top solos the album is shameless in its devotion to all things guitar… But now it seems that everywhere you look the guitar solo is making a comeback whether it’s newer metal bands like Dragonforce perennial stalwarts like zzy sbourne or even the descendents of that same grunge movement. Maybe it’s not surprising coming from a guy who assembles his own guitars holds a Bachelors of Music in classical guitar and who once lost his playing to tendinitis and struggled for five years to regain it.

Unfortunately(from the pacifist viewpoint) it also sounded rather thrilling. That was probably the loudest thing in Brass Day (which is saying something)but by no means the only memorable item. In six hours of very heavy metalwe heard a stunningly assured performance of Schumann’s joyous Concertstückfor four horns and orchestra (a stellar lineup of David Pyatt MichaelThompson Martin wen and Cormac ´ hAodáin) and H. Gruber’s freneticfreewheeling Aerial a fiendish trumpet concerto spectacularly put over byHåkan Hardenberger. We heard Venetian brass music nearly 400 years old:Monteverdi Gabrieli and Grillo deftly and delicately played by HisMajesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts. And we heard a fanfare on which the ink hadscarcely dried – Judith Bingham’s thudding inexorably rising Zigguratadmirably delivered by Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Northern Collegestudents… Gruber’s freneticfreewheeling Aerial a fiendish trumpet concerto spectacularly put over byHåkan Hardenberger. The day also included stirring contributions from two of Britain’s finestbrass bands Black Dyke and Grimethorpe Colliery playing both separately(Grimethorpe’s razor-sharp rendition of Henze’s Ragtimes andHabaneras the highlight) and burying their fierce rivalry together in anoble account of Elgar’s Severn Suite. And this spine-shuddering but heartwarming feast was brought to a suitablyrumbustious conclusion with Sir Charles Mackerras conducting a superblyextrovert performance of Janácek’s Sinfonietta with ranks of extra brassblasting out those raw fanfares. Structural engineers will of course bechecking all buildings within a ten-mile radius.

Linkin Park’s latest talks politics
Expressindia.com – Jul 31, 2007
The album cover is colourless and the music is subtler and more politically conscious than ever. So Linkin Park has managed to get their foresight right and roll out an album that bleeds of contemporary world issues. The style has evolved from bang-bang rock to rap-infused melodies and more base patterned rhythms. Minutes to Midnight is not dark as most rock albums are but it is full of a conscience that breathes of remorse and guilt. Weaving in ambient sound into its music Leave out all the best echoes of an original style that is specific only to Linkin Park… js’>LP may not have worked wonders with their pre-conceived concepts but Mike Shinoda makes up for their folly with an anti-war song preaching “the leader just talks away shattering and mumbling for nightly news to replay. ” Explaining concepts such as an instrumental style titled Song Q LP moves on to a preachy rock anthem in No more sorrow. Distinctly raw and probably sporting the heaviest metal sounds on the album the lyrics are anti-establishment. Valentine’s Day is such a huge disappointment that skipping the track almost comes naturally. A self claimed band favorite In between is strikingly different from all the other tracks. Featuring Shinoda for the first time all solo on the track base and violins storm the song as it rakes in a wave of constancy in structure. Meanwhile in In pieces LP experiments with the peppy crisp retro beats of the ’80s and sums it up with a guitar solo.
