Record Biz Meltdown Continues: Sony Studios to Close
Rolling Stone – Jun 14, 2007
now one is willing to pay 18$ a cd and not even loyalty will bring them to do it…. plus dumping money into artists that have one hit and are gone espically the boring rap music where they rap about the crap they have…has anyone stoped to notice that the rap world is looking a lot like the 80’s hair metal did…many acts same sounding music generally talentless stars…. Home recording devices replace the landmark studios. I personally have a home setup in my spare bedroom.

Here are a few excerpts: Tell us a little bit about this new record and the progression from This Darkened Heart to The Fall of Ideals. Phil: When you listen to this record and the last record you can hear similarities but it definitely doesn’t sound like we’re just putting out the last record again. I think any artist strives to make music that doesn’t sound like anything else. I’m not saying that we don’t want to have people say “Well this part reminds me of this” because I think it’s cool and influences come from everywhere. With this record there is a lot of inspiration but it’s not from your typical sources because we all listen to a lot of different styles of music. I listen to country music and a lot of garbage pop. I’m not a James Hetfield and want to go ahead and turn our band into a country band and our new album definitely isn’t country but it’s just there’s a lot of good music out there… ” I’m a big fan of his and think that he’s a phenomenal death metal vocalist. You wrote the majority of material on This Darkened Heart yourself. Has the writing process changed any with this release?Phil: A lot of this record was written by lie who probably wrote about 70% of this record. Then he would bring it to us and we’d work the rest of it as a band. It was very much a collaboration when it came to putting everything together.
Music Review: HELLYEAH
Western Courier – Western Courier (subscription) – Jun 14, 2007
This is the first project Abbott has contributed to since the loss of his brother “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott on Dec. The brothers were major contributors to the return of heavy music playing together in Pantera. The Abbott brothers were the Eddie and Alex Van Halen of heavy metal with “Dimebag” playing guitar and Vinnie Paul playing drums. They played in another band Damageplan but only managed to release one record. 8 2004 “Dimebag” was shot and killed while performing with Damageplan alongside his brother… The brothers were major contributors to the return of heavy music playing together in Pantera. thanks for providing the soundtrack Paul Gray Gloucester UKBad music extremely dodgy haircuts (the mullet being a personal favourite) frilly shirts and jewellery that matched my belt shoes and handbag! My first concert at the age of 12 in 1980 – Shakin’ Stevens my first holiday abroad (to Paris with the school at the time Italy won the World Cup-that was an eye opener!)Not getting to school ‘cos the bus couldn’t get thru the snow – so much snow – never seems to be as much now. Not knowing whether it was better to be a New Romantic a mod or to try out some Heavy Metal – punk was never my thing. Lots and lots of firsts and I’d do it all again – but I’d prefer a better soundtrack!Tracy D West Lothian Scotland Scooter Rallies!!! An eclectic mix of old time northern soulies punks skinheads psychobillies and overly earnest Smiths fans wearing their feet out dancing and drinking the weekends away at all-nighters and wearing their backsides out riding from one end of the country to another from Easter till ctober each year. Stevie Paisley UKI remember boys with eyeliner boys and girls in frilled shirts long and spiky hair. The New Romantics such as Duran Duran Spandau Ballet and Soft Cell. Johnny Marr and the Smiths was more my thing.
Can rap regain its crown?
USA Today – Jun 14, 2007
Now the music that has been a driving creative and commercial force in American culture is struggling to get its swagger back. The music industry is suffering across-the-board drops in CD sales but… In 2006 rap sold 59. 1 million albums down 21% from 2005 and 27% from 2004. Sales are trailing those for country albums (75 million) and heavy metal (61. 6 million) — genres that rap formerly overshadowed. In 2006 for the first time in five years no rap albums were among the year’s 10 biggest sellers a list led by the soundtrack to Disney’s High School Musical which sold 3. Compare that with 2003 when 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ ranked No.
