Music and the youth are inseparable writes R. Anusha

Music and the young — is it a match made in heaven or hell? Modern songs advocate drugs alcohol sex violence racism and foul language. The young can easily develop a negative attitude towards life. Heavy metal music is often known to intensify frustration violence and depression. Many CDs nowadays come with parental warning but the stamp looks like a cool addition to the packaging. And in any case most songs can easily be downloaded from the Internet. Youngsters today study drive talk read work out in the gym and do housework all to the beat of music. They are willing to splurge any amount on it.

CNCERT REVIEW: Fans as much a part of Fire Fest as the bands
Las Vegas Review-Journal – Las Vegas Review – Journal – Jun 16, 2007
Denver grind oddballs Cephalic Carnage peppered its songs with jazzy atmospheric interludes before firing back with a windfall of mangled riffs that fanned out in every direction like buckshot. Polish death metal brutes Decapitated intermingled academic guitarwork with a dense near-overwhelming percussive thrush swinging their manes about so forcefully that you could nearly feel the wind spiriting from the stage; San Diego metallers Cattle Decapitation blasted forth with a drummer whose limbs were in such perpetual motion it looked as if he was running in place behind his kit. h and their singer was fond of spitting in the air catching the gobs of saliva in his hand and then smearing the goo on his shirt just in case the band’s music became too highbrow. And that’s the key to this genre: The bands are quick to deflate any instrumental pomposity with a boyish love of gore subversive slasher-flick fantasias and just about every other gross-out tactic imaginable. Clad in skull-festooned black T-shirts the bands don’t look that much different than the crowds before them and few real barriers exist between the two a notion that was frequently underscored at Fire Fest. Near the end of a particularly forceful set from Las Vegas deathcore nasties Misericordiam the band’s red-faced singer hurled himself into the crowd and was soon swarmed by dozens of kids climbing onto his back all of them very much aware that they were as much a part of this wild-eyed exercise as the dudes clutching the instruments.

… Sunday Jam did have its usual dose of heavy rock and metal…

While it wasn’t any different in the latest edition of the Jam held at Guru Nanak Bhavan last week there were a couple of welcome diversions that would hopefully augur well for the future of the Jam and make use of the flexibility offered in such a musical open-mike. Inner Sanctum started the proceedings for the evening with a remarkably tight set that included Death’s “Crystal mountain” Arch Enemy’s “Dead eyes see no future” and an original composition. Slain with their progressive metal format are evidently an up-and-coming band and the one to look out for in the future as they showed yet again with their compositions “More than conquerors” “Slain” and “Hold on”. Soloist Vitek Goyel a. a ‘Slowdown Clown’ was a refreshing change for the evening what with his acoustic guitar and harmonica accompaniment to his own compositions… Jeoraj who teaches at his institute in Chennai is also looking to collaborate with jazz and funk bands around in the city. “I’d love to come back to Bangalore as often as I can and work with jazz musicians. ”With the Sunday Jam probably being the only one of its kind in the country the organizers (Guruskool Music) would do well to enhance the potential of such an open platform by promoting other forms of music as well. © Copyright 2000 – 2008 The Hindu.

Roanoke Times – Jun 16, 2007
The best part about the arts council is that people from more than one or two communities are represented Laughlin said. “ver the last couple of months the Giles Arts Council has got cracking and now we’ve got a pretty aggressive council” he said. Members’ goal is to promote the arts throughout the county encouraging an appreciation for painting photography sculpting printing drawing stenciling woodworking needle work pottery glassmaking metal work music and other types of art. So far about 45 people have attended the few meetings the council has had and the group is still in the process of attaining its nonprofit status. Lawyer Richard Chidester has volunteered to help the group. Steve Gary treasurer of the council moved to Giles County eight years ago after a lengthy career as an accountant.
