mostly guilty pleasures. And Jyrki has absolutely zero problem with that. “If you listen to our music if you know a little bit about the history of rock ‘n’ roll you can really easily point out a few bands” he says. “If you haven’t heard us and you see our picture you point out already a few names. ” With the band’s most recent records 2004’s Devils and this year’s Angels the influences do come out easily… “The winters are fucking long and cold and Finnish people have had to suffer being slaves first for Russia and then to Sweden and then back to Russia again and then coming independent 100 years ago” Jyrki summarizes. “f course we can’t change our lot and that’s something that brings the melancholy melody lines to our music. But on the other hand our outlook is totally different [from Finnish dark-metal bands]. We owe more to American pop culture than to let’s say Finnish Russian melancholy suicidal side of our lives. ” Indeed whether Jyrki’s talking about rock iconography Cold War films gospel music Elvis (one of his faves) or getting props from “Mr. Glenn Danzig” you get the impression that not only does he know more about American pop culture than most Americans he also understands and relishes it to an uncommon degree. In fact from the blond bombshell on its cover to lyrics that combine apocalyptic religious imagery with Sunset Strip sleaze Angels is really about all those things.

He has scored documentaries remixed tracks and formed various groups with fellow local luminaries. Now his music can be found on Reconstructions a new collection of keyboard work under the Kentsoundz moniker to be released Tuesday July 3 on his own label Madeira. A multitasker to the core Hernandez also has cofounded Junc ps a new indie hip-hop duo with local experimental hip-hop producer Paul Gaeta a… ) The duo’s off-the-wall beat collage eschews club bangers to explore mystical themes and end-of-the-world scenarios rather than grills strip joints and thrills. “verall I’m trying to offer a broad palette of music to the people of my city” Hernandez says. He took his first musical steps in 1996 while attending Coral Park Senior High School where he enjoyed a rep for being a good guitar player with various heavy metal bands. As the school metalheads began to discover hip-hop Hernandez started mixing and playing with the local group Zeno. Zeno played at local venues such as the perennial Churchill’s while Hernandez honed his production skills cutting songs for the group. “I tried to be as detailed as possible with our demo production” he says describing the band’s sound as a kitchen-sink blend of hip-hop and prog rock. In the meantime he earned a bachelor’s degree in English at Florida International University in 2002 and met Melissa Herman a then-aspiring film producer who was working on a documentary called Empire of the Andes.

The group’s first offering through the label will be the Eulogy IV re-release this fall which will be followed by an all new full-length disc next year that will also feature acclaimed drummer Tony Laureano (ex-Dimmu Borgir Nile). Founding member Blake Judd (vocals guitars) further comments on the new deal and re-release: “We are very excited and honored to be working with Century Media a label whom over the years has showcased a ferocious dedication to extreme music. Grave Tiamat Samael and countless other bands active in the early 90’s were some of the first bands to inspire us endlessly to create our own metal music. We anticipate a great working relationship and hope to embark on a joint ascension to metal superiority together!”riginally formed in 1999 by Judd Nachtmystium started off as a raw primitive black metal band with a very derivative Norsk black metal influence. They released a number of records on underground labels such as Regimental Records and Autopsy Kitchen Records etc. before delivering Eulogy IV in 2004 ushering in a new musical direction and ‘psychedelic’-era. In 2006 the group released Instinct: Decay which drew massive amounts of press compared to previous efforts landing in numerous top-ten lists in such major publications as Metal Maniacs Unrestrained etc.
Guitarist is recording guru in Milford studio
Nashua Telegraph – Jun 28, 2007
Things started going better than expected and I found myself enthralled with every aspect of every project. As the projects kept rolling in everything became clear: I am running a studio out of my backyard. “Fay first fell in love with the process of recording music during his high school days while attempting to capture the sounds with his father’s Tascam four-track. Later as he mixed Fay noticed a guitar intro was far too loud flubbing what should have been a more powerful bridge when the second guitar kicked in. It was then that he discovered the fader switch. “While bouncing the tracks I turned down the intro guitar a little so it was quieter than the rest of the song and then I brought the fader up into the bridge” Fay recalled. “I remember us all listening to it all night flipping out over how awesome it sounded… “Music is supposed to be fun after all” Fay said. “I find that artists tend to perform better when they are comfortable and relaxed and the studio has been set up accordingly. “Although in his personal tastes Fay has become more of a “rock guy” his background is clearly such that extreme metal bands – of which there are no shortage in New England – are bound to see the studio as a natural fit. Fay welcomes these bands but also hopes to “expand the horizons of the studio. “Hopefully these will attract more genres to my door as I really enjoy changing things up and working with different styles and people as much as possible. “Leaving The Red Chord represented a very real risk for Fay.
Hostile Comb-ver
San Diego Reader – Jun 28, 2007
Hostile Comb-ver covers the metal basics and that’s it: thick almost Primus-like bass lines rowdy guitar gunfire drums and lyrics screamed as loud as possible. Mix it in a bottle stuff a rag in the hole light the rag and throw. Their music bangs like pots and pans on the ears. But there’s a quality to the clarity of focus: they let everything else drop away and make noise that pisses the mainstream off… But there’s a quality to the clarity of focus: they let everything else drop away and make noise that pisses the mainstream off. The band has refrained from going too far with their heavy sound (say Norwegian black metal) but at the same time isn’t too light and poppy (like Linkin Park). Their approach seems to be keep it simple and don’t go overboard a philosophy that’s worked for dark-horse out-of-nowhere bands for the past 60 years. Discography NameYearLabel.
