Band’s big break could come this weekend
Walworth County Week Newspaper – Jun 21, 2007
"So even if you can’t win you can still get some kind of record deal out of it. " ne thing Schopen thinks the band has working against it is its genre. "The odds are stacked against us all of the time because of the kind of metal music we play" he said. "I mean the first time we were in it I don’t think any metal bands made it past the second round. " But still they hopefully insist they’re different than most other metal bands. "We’re not your normal what you picture as a metal band" said Rammelt. "People think we’re kind of weird because we play this labeled metal thing and we’re still on stage climbing through each other’s legs.
News ‘Satanists’ claim attacks on Christian sites – News from…

Members of the group which calls itself “True Armorik Black Metal” or TABM describe themselves as “extremist and anti-ecclesiastical” in a letter sent to local newspaper the Telegramme which published excerpts on Thursday. “We are going to strike again again and again” warned the letter in which the group’s acronym is scrawled in blood-red letters over the image of an inverted Christian cross. Police who are hunting a group of Satanists they believe responsible for the attacks said they were taking the letter seriously and had sent it for analysis by a specialised unit. Graffiti of the letters ABM was found at nine Christian sites desecrated in recent weeks.
MTV flips the switch back on for ‘Unplugged’
USA Today – Jun 21, 2007
In addition to customized edits the reincarnated show will be deployed to cellphones and radio as well as online as live streams or video-on-demand. “We have so many different ways to slice and dice the show now” says MTV president Van Toffler a key figure in the show’s wobbly 1989 launch and huge ’90s run. “We started at the height of hair-metal bands and we couldn’t book the show. We’d say ‘We want you to play acoustic no electricity’ and they looked at us cross-eyed. It was rough going. Between fringe acts (Nuclear Valdez) and poor fits (Ratt and Vixen) ideal candidates such as Elton John and Don Henley appeared. Then Paul McCartney boosted cachet in 1991 performing long-dormant Beatles hits and releasing Unplugged (The fficial Bootleg) in a limited edition of 650000 copies.

I didn’t expect a turnout that numbered in the hundreds for the release of Tesla’s latest CD Real to Reel especially since the album consists entirely of cover songs albeit great songs like Deep Purple’s “Space Truckin’” and Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You. ” So here we are in a very long line listening to the new Tesla CD on the loudspeakers while ’80s hair-metal bands go through mute motions in videos on the TV screen above us: A bare-chested Kip Winger swings his bass around his hips a silent Cinderella stomps around with hairsprayed Hindenburg-fire-hazard hair a soundless Ratt sweats under the stage lights. Bones is in hair-metal heaven. There’s an attractive blonde in line behind us dressed in a leopard print bustier and she and Bones stare up at the screen with nostalgic lust. “ooh Kip Winger!” Bones exclaims. “I’d still do him! Did you see him in Playgirl?” The blond smiles.
Nuci’s Space for teens too
Red and Black – Jun 21, 2007
” “Music Hates You has a big underage following and we wanted to do something different for AthFest so we decided to create a show based around them and throw in some high school-aged bands” said Will Kiser of Nuci’s Space. “This show is the only all-ages club show during AthFest. “Music Hates You is originally from Athens; they said the only thing you need to handle their “dirt metal” music is “some protective headgear. “ur vocalist is getting throat surgery so we have to play all of our songs as instrumentals. Stab The Cook a punk-rock band said they like the all-age policy because they’re underage.

substring(0 thispageresult. Predictably emo kids everywhere are depressed some about the unfavorable associations with Motley Crue but mostly just because they’re emo kids. Proponents of this theory cite the aesthetically-driven popularity of the two genres and their allegedly exclusive appeal to teenage girls. They discount predecessors and pioneers of the genre like The Juliana Theory Jimmy Eat World and Saves the Day as genuine and level their axes at recent successes Fall ut Boy My Chemical Romance and Cute is What We Aim For. Parallels can be drawn between the current media darlings of emo music and the late 80s success of bands like Trixter and Winger whereas something authentic has been duplicated so many times that its become a process or formula.
Music Preview: Magic Wolf debut is a howlin’ mix of punk grunge…
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – Pittsburgh Post Gazette – Jun 21, 2007
htm –>Music Preview: Magic Wolf debut is a howlin’ mix of punk grunge and metalThursday June 21 2007By Manny TheinerInnumerable bands wear the sounds of their heroes on their sleeves reducing themselves to little more than slavish tribute acts whether they write original music or not. They inevitably fill the sports bars and VFW halls of suburbia… ‘”Rensland’s rumbling basslines show he’s paid attention to the Touch & Go and Amphetamine Reptile catalogs mining Helmet Tar and the Jesus Lizard. But when Jake Leger — who began playing drums in high school to “relieve my teenage angst” — jokes that Magic Wolf’s audience in Pittsburgh is “the few girls who like Ratt” he’s only half kidding. There’s a recognizable ’80s “hair metal” component to what these guys do coupled with a sense of humor. “Yeah we’re into stuff like WASP and Motley Crue” affirms Rensland. “I’ve liked those bands since I was a kid — there’s no irony in it for me. I mean I don’t think it’s awesome to wear tight leather pants but a lot of those songs are good whether there’s an image behind them or not. There probably won’t be any spandex onstage at Gooski’s.
