But the keyboard parts and orchestration on Hangman’s Hymn are not embellishments. They are as important to the songs as the guitars bass and drums. So even though it’s very metal you can say it’s pretty much classical music as well. Like many operas Hangman’s Hymn is divided into three acts. There’s no distinct story line but each act represents a different set of ideas as presented through symbolic references to heaven hell earth and death. “Act one and two is about the greed of humanity on this planet” Kawashima said. “And act three is about destruction and images of burning like an inferno.

“Bands like Mastodon and Killswitch Engage have really kind of pushed back the barriers of what heavy music can do” he said. “It’s about progression and evolution and being part of the same circle as those bands keeps it healthy for everybody. Whether it’s about great hooks or pure brutality or songwriting the music out there right now can make you look at metal in a different way. “We’ve been playing with a lot of those bands since the beginning. We all kind of came up together and I see us all as a group of people who dedicated themselves a long time ago to this music. In most genres the bands that kind of expand the scene get left behind. People take great ideas and ruin them; but in metal the bands that keep pushing that envelope get the most respect.

(29-JUN-07) Messenger-Inquirer (wensboro KY). 29–When Carl Miller the drummer for wensboro metal band Laid to Rest died during a show on Feb. 24 the rest of the band took time to mourn their friend and support one… 29–When Carl Miller the drummer for wensboro metal band Laid to Rest died during a show on Feb. 24 the rest of the band took time to mourn their friend and support one another. Despite the tragedy the band never considered giving up on music. “We knew just giving up on it was not an option” said Ross Tichenor who switched instruments to play drums in the band. This weekend Laid to Rest will play its first electric show since Miller’s death. The wensboro original.

He states that among the many genres of music in the local indie scene reggae is the one that unites all these divisions. “There are metal-heads and punk aficionados and they’re very loyal to their music and bands that they support. It is this spirit that the band conveys on stage. ChthoniC has been pushing boundaries throughout their career and having singlehandedly launched an extreme metal scene in their home country the group now sets their sights squarely on the rest of the world. The band will continue taking its music abroad in August when it performs at Wacken pen Air Germany’s largest annual metal festival and it will embark on its first full European tour this fall. And though ChthoniC – like all rotating second-stage zzfest bands – will have just 20 minutes to make its case on tour this summer the group hopes its message reverberates long after their final notes are played.
