The Gauntlet: Linkin Park Metal News
thegauntlet.com – May 28, 2007
So you know I can’t express it enough but we have the best fans in the world hands down. The band’s last full-length studio effort 2003′s “Meteora” also entered in the top spot with sales of 810000 copies. The state of the music industry has changed a lot since “Meteora” came out but guitarist Brad Delson told Launch recently that Linkin Park wasn’t worried about matching its previous sales figures. “I almost think it’s less pressure because sales are so much smaller than what they were” he said. “Everyone’s expectations in terms of sales are a lot different than what they were so from that perspective it’s probably less pressure. For us the emphasis first and foremost is on making great music that’s challenging and exciting to us and hopefully to our fans. “Minutes to Midnight” also debuted at No… “I almost think it’s less pressure because sales are so much smaller than what they were” he said. “Everyone’s expectations in terms of sales are a lot different than what they were so from that perspective it’s probably less pressure. Battaglia impresses with mood music
Charleston Post Courier – May 28, 2007
The work of Pasolini a renowned filmmaker poet political critic and Marxist humanist was explicit brutal visionary ? Battaglia instead chose to pay homage with ethereal compositions delicate and abstract. He played with a talented crew: Michael Gassmann on trumpet Mirco Mariottini on clarinets Aya Shimura on cello Salvatore Maiore on upright bass and Roberto Dani on drums. The trumpet limpid the clarinet languorous the cello warm and intoxicating but it was Dani on drums who was most interesting tapping all parts of his kit with all sorts of sticks even resorting to using his hands atop the snare and tom or beating a metal cup. The intricate arhythmic drumming helped establish the “space” within which the music moved which in turn helped the musicians convey mood. As for Battaglia his playing was technical yet heartfelt and his leadership relied heavily on collaboration not direction. A couple of the compositions stood out. “Canzona di Laura Betti” offered listeners a lilting and devotional expression of respect; and “Moravia” featured long melodic lines on trumpet and clarinet and some flashy cello fingering beyond the end of the fingerboard then led to a quasi-classical piano cadenza was the only tune that got loud… A couple of the compositions stood out. “Canzona di Laura Betti” offered listeners a lilting and devotional expression of respect; and “Moravia” featured long melodic lines on trumpet and clarinet and some flashy cello fingering beyond the end of the fingerboard then led to a quasi-classical piano cadenza was the only tune that got loud. It was the sort of cerebral subtle ruminating music that works well outdoors lovely accompaniment for the twinkling stars and puff of occasional cloud rolling by overhead. As the sounds of “Moravia” filled the Cistern tiny droplets of rain mysteriously fell from a beautiful spring sky. Time mattered not at all.

Radio ffers New Voice on Darfur Border
Washington Post – May 28, 2007
“People follow our car in the streets shouting ‘radio radio’” said Fiacre Munezero the station’s supervisor. “It’s a good start. “Broadcast from a metal cargo container converted into a studio the station is run by Internews a California-based aid group spreading news and music to crisis zones. “First and foremost we’re a community radio” said Jocelyn Grange a French journalist who manages the program in eastern Chad. “We try to be directly useful to our listeners. “About 230000 Darfurians are refugees in Chad along with some 140000 Chadians who also were uprooted by the violence. Thousands of Darfur refugees are packed into a camp around Goz Beida and the border region has become a crossroads of violence where people live in fear of attack by Chadian fighters as well as Darfur’s dreaded janjaweed militia allied to Sudanese government forces.
